The North Dakota Judicial Branch is participating in a national study of jury trial procedures and practices that is being conducted by the National Center for State Courts (NCSC). To obtain a representative snapshot of current practices in the North Dakota trial courts, I encourage your participation in the Judge & Lawyer Survey posted at https://ncsc.org/jandl. The survey seeks information about your most recent jury trial, including the type of case; the procedures employed in jury selection, trial and deliberations; and your opinions about the role of the jury in the American justice system. The survey should take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Your responses will be kept completely confidential, and study findings will be published only in aggregate form. If you have questions about the study, please contact Caisa Royer, Court Research Associate, at croyer@ncsc.org. The deadline for completing the survey is May 15, 2019.

Thank you for your consideration,

Chief Justice Gerald W. VandeWalle
