"Implicit Social Cognition: The Pros and Cons of Autopilot"

Our goal as a judicial system is to ensure fair, equal access to justice. Fairness assumes that we can make impartial, unbiased decisions. However, as humans, this is an ideal that is challenging to achieve. This presentation explores the limitations to our thought processes and considers how biases are normal as part of human decision making. The presentation explores challenges in being unbiased, factors that influence decision-making, and identifies practical strategies that may be helpful in reducing cognitive load and enhancing decision-making.
