Speakers:
Mr. John M. Olson
attended Cavalier High School, and received a BA degree from Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota. John graduated from the UND School of Law in 1972.
Mr. Peter D. Welte
is the elected State’s Attorney in Grand Forks County. He received his undergraduate degree in Agricultural Economics from N.D.S.U. in 1989, and his Juris Doctorate, with distinction, from U.N.D. Law School in 1997. Peter was in private practice, and was the State’s Attorney in Steele County, North Dakota before taking a job as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Grand Forks County in 1999. He was first elected Grand Forks County State’s Attorney in 2002, and was re-elected in 2006, and again in 2010. He is the Chair of the CLE committee of the SBAND, and Chair of the Attorney Generals Drug and Violent Crime Board.
Jim Murphy
M.Ed. is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Addiction Counselor. Jim has worked in the field since 1992. Jim has practiced in various clinical settings including intensive inpatient treatment, outpatient treatment programs, a detox unit, a halfway house, and has been a staff counselor at the University of North Dakota Counseling Center for the last several years. Jim has just recently retired from his own small private practice which he enjoyed working out of for many years. Jim particularly enjoys providing education related to how cultural beliefs and attitudes towards chemicals can lead to young people making unhealthy and unwise choices related to their chemical use and protecting those things they value.
John Gourde
Program Manager with the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. John has worked in the corrections/law enforcement field since 1995. He has held the positions of state trooper, parole officer, drug court coordinator and program manager. He currently supervises the adult drug courts and reentry programs in the state.
