2013 Fundamentals of Law Webinar: Depositions in Civil Cases: Nuts and Bolts

This Webinar will provide an overview and analysis of depositions in civil cases including depositions of parties, witnesses, and experts. In particular, why to take them, when to take them, what to cover, and how to use the deposition later.

Mr. Lawrence E. King
is a partner with Zuger Kirmis & Smith and practices extensively in the area of litigation, with an emphasis on insurance defense for over 20 years. He has represented numerous major insurance companies and their insureds in a variety of actions, including bodily injury, underinsured and uninsured motorist claims, bad faith actions, coverage issues, fire investigation and litigation, and numerous other areas. Lawrence was born in Fairbanks, AK in 1965. He moved to Grand Forks, ND in 1967. He attended the UND and received his degree in Political Science in 1989. He graduated from the UND School of Law in 1992. He is married to Tammy King and they have three children, Samantha, Erik and Isaac. Lawrence is a member of the McCabe United Methodist Church where he has served on numerous committees. He has served on nonprofit organizations, including Bridging the Dental Gap, which provides dental services to the needy. Lawrence also serves on the Bismarck Public School Board.
Mr. Scott Patrick Brand
is a Law Clerk for the Northwest Judicial District of ND. His clerkship began in August 2012. As a Law Clerk, Scott conducts legal research, prepares bench memos, and drafts orders and opinions for the seven Judges of the District. Scott grew up on a farm near West Fargo, ND. In 2005, Scott took a break from his undergraduate studies at UND and joined the Minnesota Army National Guard. Scott was deployed to Iraq in 2006. Scott graduated from UND with a BA in Political Science in 2009. The summer after graduation, he worked for Senator Byron Dorgan as an intern in Washington, D.C. Scott earned his Juris Doctor from the UND School of Law in 2012, graduating magna cum laude. While attending law school, Scott participated in Moot Court, Law Review, and was instrumental in the re-founding of the Environmental Law Society. Scott was awarded the Lillian Elsinga Outstanding Student Leader Award and the Memorial Union Leadership Scholarship in 2012.
