August 2008 marks Chief Justice Gerald W. VandeWalle’s 30th year on the North Dakota Supreme Court, as well as a 75th birthday.  The VandeWalle Celebration was originally scheduled for August 15, 2008, but has been rescheduled to Friday, August 22, 2008, at the Radisson Hotel in Bismarck.  Please mark your calendars now for an informative CLE program during the day and an elegant evening banquet. Additional information will be publicized in the future.

The interest rate for all judgments entered between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2008 will be 10.5%. Click here for additional information.

The 2007 Legislature gave the Supreme Court funding for two family law mediation pilot projects, one in Grand Forks, and one in Bismarck.  The Joint ADR Committee has now forwarded to the Court a proposed administrative rule and a proposed protocol for these projects.

These pilot projects are expected to have a significant impact on the practice of family law in Bismarck and Grand Forks.  If the projects are successful, similar family law mediation services eventually may be offered throughout the state.  The SBAND Board of Governors supports the proposed rule and protocol, and has submitted comments.  The Supreme Court will determine the final form of the rule and protocol sometime in the near future.  In the meantime, for your information, here are links to the rule and protocol as presently proposed, and to the comments of the Board of Governors.
