Retirement Reception for James Odegard to be held Nov. 1

In Recognition of James T. Odegard, Grand Forks County State’s Attorney a reception will be held November 1, 2002 from 3pm to 6pm at the Grand Forks County Office Building - 6th Floor

State’s Attorney James T. Odegard will be retiring from the Office of the State’s Attorney at the end of his term in December, 2002. Jim has served the public for over thirty years.

In 1972, Grand Forks District Judge A.C. Bakken appointed Jim to the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program. In 1975, Jim was appointed to an Assistant State’s Attorney position in the Office of the State’s Attorney, Grand Forks County, North Dakota. He served as an Assistant State’s Attorney from 1975 through 1978 and was elected State’s Attorney in November, 1978. Taking office in January, 1979, he has served as State’s Attorney without interruption to this date.

When Jim took office in 1979, there were 3 full-time assistants and 2 legal assistants. Today, he works with a staff of 8 Assistant State’s Attorneys and 7 legal assistants.

In addition to his duties as State’s Attorney, Jim has been a member of the Greater Grand Forks County Bar Association and served as President. He serves as a member of the Community Violence Intervention Center Task Force. Jim has served on various boards throughout the community including: the YMCA, Lincoln School PTA, Grand Forks Rotary, Lincoln Park Men’s Club, the Grand Forks Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Grand Forks Chapter of the Military Affairs Committee, the Grand Forks Curling Club, and the United Lutheran Church.

Jim has given much of his time and expertise on a state level. He has served on numerous state committees including the following:
The North Dakota State’s Attorney’s Association Board and is a past president of the Board
Joint Procedures of the Supreme Court
The Drug and Violent Crime Policy Board of the Attorney General’s Office
The North Dakota Association of Counties Board of Directors
The Governors Task Force on Grants
Court Services Administration of the Supreme Court
State Indigent Commission

Jim is married to Cari and they have a daughter Lori (married to Ross Glazier,) and son Eric (married to Lynn) and three grandchildren Karina and Rachel Glazier and Eric James (EJ) Odegard.
