If [a clearly visible electric or mechanical signal device gives warning of the immediate approach of a railroad train,] [a crossing gate is lowered or a flag person signals the approach or passage of a railroad train,] [a railroad train approaching within approximately 1,320 feet of a highway crossing sounds a signal audible from that distance and the train, by reason of its speed or nearness to the crossing, is an immediate hazard,] [or] [an approaching railroad train is plainly visible and in hazardous proximity to the crossing,] the driver of a vehicle approaching the crossing must stop within fifty (50) feet, but not closer than fifteen (15) feet, from the nearest rail in the crossing and may not proceed until it can be done safely. The driver must exercise ordinary care to become aware of circumstances that require stopping and must refrain from proceeding until it can be done safely.
[A person may not drive a vehicle through, around, or under a crossing gate or barrier at a railroad crossing while the gate or barrier is being operated or closed, nor past a flag person at the crossing until the flag person signals that the way is clear to proceed.]
