Attorneys who no longer want to be licensed in North Dakota
may request to be placed on inactive status for CLE reporting
purposes. In doing so, you can still be a member of the State
Bar Association of North Dakota upon payment of a membership
fee, but you will not be eligible to practice law. In order
to qualify for inactive status you must certify that:
you do not plan to actively practice law in North Dakota in
the current year and beyond, or;
you plan to leave North Dakota and do not intend to maintain
your license to practice law in the current year and beyond.
Be advised that if sometime in the future you should decide
to renew your license, the State Board of Law Examiners may
require you to report CLE hours for the period of time you
were on inactive status, in addition to several other requirements
as set for in Rule 8 of the North Dakota Admission to Practice
Rules.
